The Controlled Origin Label
Chromatographie de l'Essence de Lavande

for "essential oils of lavender from Haute-Provence" was established in 1981. This label allows the consumer to identify very high quality production and relates solely to essential oil for fine lavender. These fields must be located within a specified territory, at a minimal altitude of 800 meters. The geographical zone covers 284 townships in the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Drôme and Vaucluse.

To obtain the right to be called an AOC, the essential oil undergoes an olfactory test then goes through analysis tests which determine if its composition fulfils the quality standards defined by the decree which established the AOC label.
